CV Tips To Increase The Number Of Job Interviews You Receive

Within this article we will address an issue that jobseekers are finding more and more frustrating - how can I ensure my CV appears at the top of all the CV databases that I am registered on, and that it stands out to recruiters when I apply for jobs?

If you read this article and apply the tips we provide you will definitely increase your chances of gaining the job interviews you really want.

CV writing advice is all over the Internet, yet most of it is vastly out of date and does not address effective CV writing for the current Internet-focused job hunting market. Within this article we introduce you to the concept of CV SEO which uses a similar approach to website search engine optimisation (SEO). The objective is to highlight / promote particular keywords and phrases within your CV to help it appear at the top of Internet job board and CV database searches.

Tip 1 - Take a moment to think before taking action; So, this is something that most people forget to do at the beginning. They simply rush in and start applying for jobs, building candidate profiles on websites and listing their CV on as many databases as possible. Before they know it, they have wasted at least one complete day (actually, its normally about a week) and receive nothing in return. Why? because they didnt take any time to think about the content and style of their CV and as a result it was not specifically targeted to appeal to anything they have applied for. Therefore, before you do anything, just take a moment to read the tips below and learn how to target your CV before you undertake any job hunting.

Tip 2 - Identify the jobs / careers you want to do; The best starting point is to clearly define the type of job you are seeking to obtain. This might be what you do already or the career you would like to get into. Think about the 3 main jobs that you are suited to / want to do and type those into the most popular Internet job board you know of and see what types of search results appear.

Tip 3 - Create a short list of the terminology they use; This bit is key. Pick the top 5 jobs and evaluate what terminology is used for the job title, how they introduce the job, what type of experience they want to see from candidates and what key skills are being sought. Take notes on the keywords and phrases that appear on each.

Tip 4 - Validate your findings; Repeat this exercise with 3 major job boards to ensure your initial findings are consistent. Some recruiters only use one job board to advertise on and as a result they will write their adverts in a similar manner. Therefore, check other job boards to make sure the job adverts, descriptions and terminology are all quite similar.

Tip 5 - Re-write your CV incorporating your new findings; Now you can take a completely fresh look at your CV again and see how well it reflects the keywords and phrases that you are now aware of. At a guess I would say that your existing CV is far too general and is not keyword rich enough or keyword focused enough, within your confirmed target job hunting areas. You can now re-write your CV so that it is clearly defined and orientated around these core skills.

Summary - If you apply these are simple tips when you create your CV you will definitely see an improvement in the number of job interviews you are asked to attend, the quality of the interviews and resulting jobs plus you will spend less time looking for work. Best of luck and remember to look in the links below to see where you can go for more job hunting advice and tips.
