Quick to Make

Video CVs are actually quicker to create than a traditional written CV - yet, tell potential employers far more about you than a written CV. Here are our suggested methods of making your own Video CV:

1. Setting up

Firstly, set yourself up in a well-lit room, ideally behind a table or desk. An important thing to consider is to keep the area behind you nice and clear and also ensure that the wall colour is quite plain.

2. Decide what you will use to record your Video CV

You can create a Video CV in minutes by simply making a recording using your Web Cam, Mobile Phone or Digital Camera.

Each has its own advantages and often the best way is to try recording with each and see which you feel more comfortable with.

One thing to consider is making sure the camera stays as still as possible. This is easiest with a Web Cam as it is usually built within your laptop or is on a tripod.

A camera can be a little more tricky, but there are small tripods available from E-Bay and most stores and they only cost a few pounds. Alternatively, do what we did which is to find a box or a few thick books and mount it on there.

3. Only your head and shoulders

Set up everything so that the main focus is on your head and shoulders. The potential employer doesn't need to see how tall you are!

This also means that you will be quite close to the microphone, so it will ensure the sound quality is good.

4. Choose a small file size

There will also be an option for you to choose what quality you wish the video to be. Our advice would be to choose one that is suitable for 'email' to ensure the file is not too big to upload.
