staff nurse RMN

Job Summary
Under the supervision and support of a senior staff nurse or above, taking
responsibility for assessing the care needs of patients and the planning
development, implementation and evaluation of individual care plans.
Assisting in providing a safe and therapeutic environment for all who use and
work in the hospital.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Clinical
• Acting as a primary Nurse to allocated patient (s) under the supervision
and support of a senior staff nurse or above, planning, implementing
and evaluating patient programmes of care, focusing particularly on risk
assessment and risk management.
• Ensuring the maintenance of high standards in all ward procedures and
treatments including the storage, custody and safe administration of
medicines.
• Assisting in ensuring that all clinical documentation/procedures comply
with all applicable legislative and statutory requirements.
• Attending and taking part in ward rounds and other multi- disciplinary
meetings.
• Assisting in the procedures for admission and discharge of patients.
• Assisting in ensuring that the requirements of the care programme
approach are met.
• Acting in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct at all
times.
Personnel
• Acting as a professional role model at all times.
• Assisting the Team Leader in ensuring that all staff follow
Hospital policies and procedures.
• Participating in the Induction of new employees.
• Making staff aware of care plans, objectives and activity programmes.
• Reporting to a senior staff nurse or above, any circumstances which may
compromise the effective delivery of care, safety or day to day
management of an area.
• Maintaining a professional portfolio in accordance with the NMC PREP
requirements.
• Assisting in the professional development and appraisal of nursing
students and HCA's.
Management
• After successfully completing an agreed period of preceptorship, taking
charge of the ward in the absence of more senior staff.
• Under the supervision and support of a senior staff nurse or above,
acting as a shift co-coordinator as directed by the Team Leader.
• Participating in clinical/management supervision, both in the role of
supervisee and supervisor for healthcare assistants.
• Being self aware and seeking advice and guidance when appropriate.
• As Staff nurses gain more experience, they will be expected to undertake
more responsible delegated duties.
Health and Safety
Having regard for the health and safety of yourself and others in the
workplace and complying with any safety and statutory regulations.
Fire Regulations
Ensuring that you are familiar with all fire regulations and evacuation
procedures, and adhering to these in the event of an emergency.
General
• Performing any other comparable tasks requested by the Unit Manager.
